Ford Transit Connect Camper Conversion

Ford Transit Connect Camper Conversion

This post documents my Ford Transit Connect camper conversion journey. I started the project in September 2020 when I sold my car and bought a 2012 Ford Transit Connect long wheel base high roof panel van with 55,000 miles and a lot of potential. I’ll keep this post updated along the way. Use the links …

Leave No Trace

Eat Sleep Wild endorses the “Leave No Trace” philosophy. “Leave No Trace” describes the 7 best practices for respecting the outdoors and protecting our natural spaces. It should go without saying that you should always leave a place the way you found it, but unfortunately this isn’t always the case. Even in the most remote …

Minimalist Car Camping Checklist

Minimalist Car Camping Checklist (Printable)

This Minimalist Car Camping checklist was originally written in 2008 following a ten day tour of England with a tiny car. This is how to travel when you want to take a camping trip but still keep things pretty lightweight. “Minimalist car camping” is particularly great if you’re changing locations every day or every other …

Wild Camping Checklist (Customisable, Downloadable)

What should you pack for a wild camping adventure? The answer will of course depend on your specific interests and level of minimalism / maximalism, but there are quite a few basics that everyone should take. This is the wild camping checklist I use. You can download it as a PDF or WORD file (the …

Cycle touring in Wales

Tips for Cycle Touring in Wales

I’ve just returned from an incredible (and way too short) cycle tour of Wales. In four days I covered just over 100 miles from Chepstow to the Elan Valley following various branches of the wonderful National Cycle Route the whole way. The distance is a testament to the challenge – there are hills a plenty …

Essential Foot Care for Happy Adventures

If you’re like us, then going on an adventure usually involves a fair bit of walking, be it on a long day out up a mountain or on a multi-day trek across country (also sometimes involving mountains!). There are two things we’ve found that can make or break a trip: proper foot care, and solid …

How to Take a Cycling Holiday in France & Spain

I’ve just returned from a 3.5 week cycling holiday through France and Spain, a journey of just over 1000 miles from Cherbourg to Santander (with a few stops and diversions along the way). I was a little nervous going into it. Would my legs poop out? What if my bike breaks? Are the hills going …

What to Eat on a Bicycle Tour

I’ve recently completed a 1000mile bike tour through France and Spain and wanted to share a little bit about the food I ate along the way. I tried to eat well, choosing foods that would energise my journey rather than drag me down. This is pretty easy to do in France and Spain, where there are …

Where to Buy Threaded Camp Stove Canisters in France and Spain

If you’ve ever camped in France and Spain then you know that Camping Gaz is ubiquitous in most supermarkets, gas stations and general stores. However, if you’re coming from the US or Great Britain, then it’s very possible that you have a camping stove that takes a screw-on gas canister (often sold under the Primus …

Bicycle Touring Checklist

I recently returned from a 4-week bike tour through France and Spain, carrying all of my own kit and camping along the way. Some people have commented that they can’t believe I travel so light, while others have said “how the heck do you fit all that on a bike?” You can fit a surprising …

Busy times at ESW HQ restocking after a busy Chris Busy times at ESW HQ restocking after a busy Christmas. I was accidentally sent some red chillies for my Trailblazer Hot Sauce. I could have sent then back but they looked so good I decided to keep them. Currently thinking I’ll smoke them with hickory, but who knows! … there could be a special edition Trailblazer coming soon!

An invigorating 7-ish miles from Bisely with better than expected weather, two happy hounds, great views, hidden gems, and predictably much mud! Campervan cooking. First meals! Appreciating that Campervan cooking. First meals! Appreciating that a little bit of convenience can go a long way while still enabling great food and fresh ingredients. Prep-prepped #barbacoa made for killer campervan tacos with shredded cabbage, avocado, and our house-made hot sauce, salsa macha, and pickles (all in the ESW shop). Lunches were made easy with some minestrone I cooked and dehydrated at home. We also used some of @desihealthycurry's curry kits to make a deeelish fish stew and cauliflower curry on our first night. All made on the #jetboil - no kitchen installed just yet. Good times! More tales of our first night out on the blog (link in profile).⠀

Been a while since I’ve posted a #sourdough loaf Been a while since I’ve posted a #sourdough loaf so here’s a shot of this week’s bake (cuz, you know, #lockdownbaking and all!). I’ve been taking some downtime this January to recover from Christmas (and other things 🦠) but am slowly ramping things back up. One thing never stops, though, and that’s my happy sourdough starter, fed with a blend of organic rye and white flours from @shiptonmill. If you’re wanting to have a go at sourdough yourself, you can buy sourdough starter and eBook over in the shop (the eBook is only £3 and the starter comes with a free copy so why not). I’m so chuffed by all the folks out there who’ve been having success with my instructions, focused on baking in a bog standard home oven. Head over to shop.eatsleepwild.com or click the link in my bio and click on Fermented Foods under Basecamp Essentials. Happy baking!
